IT’S WRITTEN IN THE STARS!

  • Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts 280 Pitt Street Sydney, NSW, 2000 Australia (map)

You've likely read your horoscope in magazines, written with a certain amount of accuracy.  How many Astrologers have commenced their astrological career riding on the back of many years of reading a Sun sign column in the tabloids?  These Sun signs allowed for predictions to apply to a greater number of people and were vague enough for those reading their “tea leaves” in ways that suited them best.

The word horoscope comes from the Greek words, “hora” meaning time or hour and “scopos” to mean observer.  Daily newspaper horoscopes, a diluted byproduct of more elaborate natal charts, are still very popular.  R H Naylor, a prominent early twentieth century astrologer, is widely credited for having birthed the tabloid version of horoscopes.  He came into prominence after Britian’s Sunday Express asked him to create a horoscope for Princess Margaret (younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II) a few days after her birth in 1930.  Naylor predicted Margaret’s life would be “eventful” and accurately called an aviation disaster in Princess Margaret’s life and then naming later events.

It’s no surprise that some of the world’s most well-known and wealthiest astrologers of all time have been Sun sign columnists.  Whether you’re even considered a career in Sun sign astrology or not, there are a few things that you might want to consider before approaching the editor of your country’s best-selling magazine.  According to English based Astrologer, Frank Clifford… “if you’re looking for a paid Sun sign writing job with a magazine, these positions are rare and usually come via existing contact in publishing.”

In many ways we have much to thank our celestial scribes for.  They weaved the cosmic tale, finding themselves penning their astrological insight into the masses.  Whether it’s a Sun Sign column in a tabloid or a more extensive article, tabloid Astrologers have a unique challenge, to make Astrology digestible for the readers.  Mostly, they pave the way for the rest of us “traditional” astrologers to follow.

Join Christina as she dives deep into the lives and charts of some of the most known, and not so known, astrological Sun sign columnists of all time.  Find out what, if anything, they have in common and if you too could keep the astrological Sun sign writer’s pen from being extinguished.

Please come and join us on Wednesday April 3rd 2024 at The School of Mechanics’ School of Arts at 280 Pitt Street. There will be a zoom link for those who can’t make it in-person.
